Historic Home - Main Street, Annville
|
This beautiful home in the historic district of Annville was commissioned by Bishop Mills of Lebanon Valley College at the turn of the last century, and later owned by renowned local artist Bruce Johnson and his wife. The current owners are determined to maintain the house and its originality, so when the upstairs balcony porch railings started to deteriorate, they sought Michael’s expertise. Much of the wood was rotted, but he saved as much as he could, milled it down and used it for fill or for moldings. The original railing design was copied and recreated in his shop. Vertical grain cedar and redwood were used in this restoration, insuring the new railings will last as long as the old. Click Here To See A Slide Show Of This Project!

This 1700’s farmhouse on the National Historic Register dates
back to the founding of our nation, and so did the outside windowsills. Six
windows had to be restored. Michael chose to save what was still intact, and
what was rotted he filled in and recreated with a substance called Abatron,
which can be molded and sculpted to look like original dowels, wood grain,
etc. The upstairs south-facing window had to be completely replaced, and
clear vertical rain cedar was used, ensuring long life in the face of
constant sun and wear. Click Here To See A Slide Show Of This Project!
